A project is being created in Penza that will make the space accessible to everyone – Penza State University

At Penza State University (PSU), students, young researchers, university specialists and a regional design studio for virtual and augmented reality create scenes for space tourists.

Project leader – Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Radio Technology and Radioelectronic Systems, PSU Alexander Tychkov told how the idea to create a virtual reality in outer space came about:

“Virtual reality is an artificially created digital representation of the real world. It creates effects that are projected on the human mind and allows you to experience sensations that are as close to real as possible. Within the framework of virtual scenes are created: outer space, earth, ISS, In them, a person will be able to assess their level of emotional stability and behavior in a particular situation, so that everyone in the future can really feel like they are in space and on a ship as realistically as possible. themselves and then determine if they are capable of being in real space as part of a crew. ”

So far, space tourism is developing rapidly, in the near future, those who want to conquer outer space will have such an opportunity.

“Today, not everyone can afford to go into space, but probably everyone has dreamed of it since childhood. Our unique development will enable all future space tourists to realize their dream, both within the walls of Penza State University and at home, for you just need a virtual reality helmet and our stage. ” shared Alexander Tychkov.

In recent decades, the development of the space industry around the world has come a long way. There are many foreign analogues that are close to the Penza innovators’ solution, but it is PSU that has developed a unique technology and instrumental approach that allows you to feel in the virtual world as in the real one. The project group creates photorealistic scenes that immerse the future tourist in outer space as much as possible. A person will be able to feel being on a spaceship, at the ISS station or in outer space. The existing development of virtual outer space is focused on developing the technical skills and capabilities of astronauts to stay on the space station. A team from PSU examines the level of human emotional stability in spaceflight. Such an innovative solution will enable people to test themselves in the outer space, try to solve the occurrence of emergencies on the ship, overcome their fears and much more.

“Based on the university’s student research and production company incubator, we are developing a program” A system for adapting space tourists to emergencies in virtual reality. “It is planned to evaluate the emotional state of users at the time of immersion in virtual reality, where we will show them when they are on the space station. “– the responsible performer, a second-year student at the Department of Radio Technology and Radioelectronic Systems, PSU, spoke about the project’s functions Denis Chernyshov.

For several years, staff at Penza State University have conducted a study of a person’s psycho-emotional state, his anxiety and phobic disorders. Experts with medical education are involved in the research. Previously, the doctor conducts a general examination of the future space tourist, immersed in virtual reality, talks to him, conducts tests. The first step in the study is a subjective assessment. The second is an objective assessment (taking physiological data: an electrocardiogram (ECG) and an electroencephalogram (EEG). After processing physiological signals, a conclusion is drawn about the characteristics of human behavior in a virtual reality environment.

A student at Penza State University emphasized that Roscosmos has a similar technology aimed at training cosmonauts to work in space. And the project with inventors from the university specifically aims to train and adapt space tourists – civilians who want to conquer outer space. The program has already been partially implemented and now the team is completing the project. The ultimate goal of the PSU team is the commercialization of development.

Project manager Alexander TychkoV said that it is already possible today to walk around in a separate module of the spacecraft and try to fly out into space. The inventors plan to bring the virtual space as close to the real as possible:

“We plan to complete the project. Simulate different scenes in open space, shuttle. We want to make our EEG and ECG recording unit compact and portable. Also add a tactile component to the system – vests, gloves, joysticks. A person will be able to feel the vibrations, the weight of the costume, which will bring the virtual space even closer to the real. ”
