From August 18 to 21, VDNKh will host themed tours, an educational lecture and intellectual speed dating. Guests will learn about the special psychological preparation of astronauts, about the animals that have been in orbit, how to navigate the stars and look for constellations. Participation in all activities is free, with advance registration.
August 18 at 4:00 p.m there will be a sightseeing tour for visitors with limited mobility. Guests will learn the history of Russian cosmonautics – from the very first steps to the present, they will see authentic samples and models of space technology in full size. The Cosmonautics and Aviation Center at VDNKh is equipped with special elevators, which makes the tour not only interesting, but also comfortable for all visitors. Registration is required.
August 18 at 7 p.m intellectual speed dating will take place. This is a new activity format: participants will not only have a lecture from an invited specialist, but also a lively discussion with each other on prepared questions. Visitors discuss each of them for three minutes and then change interlocutors. This time, visitors will talk with the astrophysicist, science popularizer Vsevolod Lander about the connection between astronomy and music, about cyclicity and rhythm, scale numbers and infinity of combinations in these areas. August 19 at 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m visitors are invited to the thematic excursions “Animals in Space”. Guests will hear about the successful flight of Belka and Strelka, the flights of other dogs that paved the way for man into space, about special research satellites of the Bion series, as well as about biological experiments at the Mir station. August 19 at 4:00 p.m it will be a sightseeing tour for visitors with hearing loss. The story of the most important milestones in the history of Russian cosmonautics will be accompanied by sign language translation. Participation by registration.
August 20 at 4:00 p.m the center invites you to the lecture “Why does a cosmonaut need a psychologist?”. The lecturer is the head of the laboratory, deputy head of the department of the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences Oleg Ryumin. Cosmonauts’ working days, including flight preparation, are full of risks and threats and pass under constant stress. The key condition for ensuring reliable and effective human activity in such a situation is its high neuropsychic stability, adaptability and psychological readiness. The astronaut acquires and develops all these qualities with the help of a psychologist. At the lecture, guests will learn about the selection and training of cosmonauts from a psychological point of view, post-flight rehabilitation. August 21 at 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m there will be thematic excursions “People and space”, dedicated to the anniversary of the launch of the world’s first two-stage intercontinental ballistic missile R-7 (August 21, 1957). The exhibition of the Center “Cosmonautics and Aviation” presents broad sides of the history of the development of space technology. Here you can see models of launch vehicles, ships and satellites, powerful engines and automatic interplanetary stations, each of which in different years was a real breakthrough in the history of practical astronautics. But who worked to turn these bold ideas into reality, who ensured the first successes of the Soviet space program? On excursions, visitors learn about the amazing people who have done everything to make space travel possible. Advance registration is required.
