I want to fly into space. What to do? — Future on vc.ru

A short guide to action.

With the development of science, our possibilities expand. What 20 years ago seemed to be something very far away (for example, a flight into space for a “mere mortal”, not an astronaut), is becoming a reality today. And in a few decades it will become even more accessible. Therefore, if you have ever thought about flying into space, it makes sense to start preparing your “Earth in the window” now.

So you’ve decided to fly into space. What is needed for this?

Step 1. To get started – stock up on an impressive amount, patience and practice

Because space tourism is:

one. Money. Entertainment is not cheap. Store up a large sum of money. Better than $50 million.

2. Time. A service for which a preliminary reservation is valid several years in advance.

3. Health. Space is a pleasure available only to physically fit people. If you have serious health problems, you must forget about space tourism. At least for the moment.

But space tourism is developing, new opportunities are emerging and new programs are opening up that allow us to look at the Earth from the window. And do it in different ways and for different budgets.

Step 2. Choose a program

Today, several private programs are actively being developed:

one. Space adventure. This American company offers its customers a 7-14 day stay on the ISS. Thanks to the program, several hundred people have already been in space. The cost of such a trip is about 20-40 million dollars. In addition, for 3-5 million dollars you can do a space walk.

2.”Roscosmos”. Previously, Roscosmos acted in cooperation with Space Adventure, but now it aims to develop its own direction in space tourism. The company has global plans for the future – a shuttle with cabins for tourists on board is being built, applications for flights are being accepted. Recently, another company, CosmoKurs, was created in Russia, which organizes space flights and training for them.

3. Virgin Galactic. Although these are flights beyond the atmosphere for a couple of hours (you will have time to feel weightless), they cost about 250 thousand dollars. A queue of those who wished was formed, although after the crash of 2014 it decreased noticeably. In the near future, Richard Branson plans to go into space and regularly send tourists into space.

four. blue origin. Jeff Bezos’ company with grand plans for the future. This is the closest competitor to Virgin Galactic, which also develops the carriers itself (in this case a capsule with large windows for easy viewing and an accelerator). The flight time is one and a half hours, the cost is $150-200 thousand.

5. world view, Zero2Infinity. Project that in the near future plans to send people into the stratosphere in capsules on balloons. At this distance, you can at least be able to make sure that the Earth is round, and that the gravitational force in the process of moving away from the planet becomes weaker. The flight time is 5-6 hours, the cost is $75-116 thousand.

6. SpaceX. And last but not least is the Elon Musk project, which has high hopes. Yes, the first flights failed. But since 2008, the company has steadily gained momentum. The special thing about the program is that Musk develops his own carriers, unlike most programs that use Russian missiles.

What comes next? In the future, it is planned to develop not only flights to outer space, but also visits to the moon and Mars. According to preliminary calculations, the cost of a flight to the moon will be 700 million dollars.

In addition to new opportunities, space tourism will become more affordable in the future (both in terms of cost and queue length), and the number of private programs will increase.

And if we figured out the cost and gender of flights, it is worth dwelling in more detail on the issue of physical fitness.

Step 3. Physical and psycho-emotional preparation

If you want to fly into space, you have to go through:

medical controlaccording to the results of which it is determined whether you are able to cope with the upcoming loads and with the preparations for the flight itself.

general space education. These are training of the vestibular apparatus, imitation of weightlessness and so on.

Theoretical education. Here you will get acquainted with the structure of the transport ship, on which you will be delivered to the ISS, and directly with the Russian segment of the ISS.

Train and work on special simulators with and without a space suit.

Flight on a fighter into the stratosphere to live the experience of weightlessness and severe overloads in near-space conditions.

In addition to physical preparation, there is also psychological preparation. Stress resistance increases, the body is tested to see how it will react to situations that are unusual for it, posture, nutrition and constant overload.

The training cycle takes from one to four months with the issuance of a certificate that you have completed the training and that you are fit for space flight. And the training itself is carried out next to us – at the training ground of a specialized center in Shchyolkovo near Moscow.

The future is approaching. There are already relatively affordable ways to experience weightlessness and see space with your own eyes. And judging by the dynamics of the development of private programs, our opportunities will only increase in the future. And we will be able to put on a spacesuit, go into space and look out the window on Earth. Faster than it looks.
