With the holiday season in full swing, travelers in Seattle can expect a busy airport in the next few weeks.

But along with increased airport traffic, come announcements of new international routes thanks to partnerships with both Alaska Airlines and United Airlines. Seattle travelers will also find excellent price deals for January travel this week thanks to Delta’s seasonal sale.

Sea-Tac International Airport offers holiday travel advice


Sea-Tac International Airport expects nearly two million passengers this week and next as holiday enthusiasts relish the season. Want to avoid traffic? Sea-Tac suggests using alternative ways to get to the airport, including Link light rail, rideshares, and public transportation.

To reduce long waiting times inside the airport, it is recommended that travelers arrive two hours before domestic flights or three hours before international flights. Travelers can also use the SEA Spot Saver to speed up security.

When picking up guests at the airport, remember that Sea-Tac has plenty of new cell phones with improved entry and exit flow.

Alaska Airlines expands oneworld international partnerships

Alaska Airlines recently announced a new route from Seattle (SEA) to Helsinki (HEL) with its partner Finnair. Now Alaska is improving its international route to London Heathrow.

Through its partnership with the oneworld alliance, Alaska passengers can take advantage of a new British non-stop flight between Portland (PDX) and London Heathrow (LHR). The non-stop service begins in June 2022 and will operate five days a week.

Next summer travelers will also have two options for non-stop flights from Seattle (SEA) to London (LHR) with Alaska partners oneworld. British Airways will fly twice daily to Heathrow while American Airlines will fly daily.

Alaska mileage plan members can earn and redeem miles with more than 20 oneworld partner airlines, while MVP elite travelers will enjoy the benefits of mutual status on partner airlines.

Delta Winter Offers

Delta has released a number of airline deals for travelers in Seattle this winter.

For travel in January, Seattle passengers will find non-stop deals to Tucson (TUS), San Jose (SJC), Orange County (SNA) and San Diego (SAN) all offered for $167 round-trip in the main cabin.

Additional January deals include SEA to Palm Springs (PSP) for $176 round trip, Seattle to Anchorage (ANC) for $185 round trip, and Seattle to New Orleans (MSY) for $247 round trip.

United Airlines and Virgin Australia Group announce new partnership

In early 2022, passengers on United Airlines can access convenient one-stop connections to Australia’s top destinations thanks to a new partnership with Virgin Australia Group.

United currently offers daily direct flights from San Francisco and Los Angeles to Sydney, and in 2022 United customers will also have easy access to Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

The partnership also adds reciprocal benefits for premium United Mileage Plus members including priority check-in, priority boarding and lounge access.
