Will there be “star wars” between Moscow and Washington

The popular Indian TV channel WION’s internet resource published an article on the possible consequences of the launch of the US intelligence unit into space – Space Delta 18. The authors of the article recall that the purpose of the new structure is to spy on Russia’s and China’s actions in space, and Beware that this can lead to hot passions in orbit – up to comic wars. Through this step, the Pentagon shows that they regard outer space as a strategic battlefield.

And there is every reason for this.

Space as a potential battlefield

The United States has repeatedly demonstrated the use of space in the geopolitical confrontation with Russia. Thus, it recently became known that the American commercial satellite Worldview-2 filmed Novaya Kakhovka in the Kherson region liberated by Russia on the eve of the attack by the Ukrainian armed forces with HIMARS missiles.

At the same time, the Americans themselves, represented by the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), accuse Russia of using space in order to carry out a special operation. “NASA strongly condemns Russia’s use of the International Space Station for political purposes, in support of Russia’s specific military operation in Ukraine,” the agency said.

According to military expert, editor-in-chief of National Defense magazine Igor Korotchenko, Space Delta 18 is nothing more than a reconnaissance unit that solves reconnaissance tasks to identify potential aggression for the United States. But it still needs to be treated with the utmost care.

All of our opponents’ reconnaissance activities are a threat to us. The question is how we can counteract it. In response, Russia can develop its space constellation systems, as well as continue work on anti-satellite weapons, so that in the event of an escalation, we can deprive the United States of “eyes and ears” in space. he said to Life.

The probability of space war

According to the head of the Space Policy Institute, Ivan Moiseev, a conflict between Russia and the United States in space may still flare up. The expert claims that the Americans’ actions show that Washington is really preparing for such a development.

There are ways to destroy the earth’s satellites. In the world, only Russia, the United States, China and India can do this. It is also possible to destroy the sensitive parts of satellites with laser radiation, and interference is possible. The Americans consider, according to their recently released security policy for space policy, possible attacks in cyberspace, solar flames that can disturb satellites and external interference as their main threats. External interference is precisely the defeat of satellites by external forces, which we are talking about. But the latter is difficult to imagine in reality, as it would be tantamount to war, since space objects are the sovereign territory of the states that launched them. And, judging by the US documents and documents, they are really preparing for this, says Moiseev.

Oleg Mukhin, vice president of the Federation of Cosmonautics of Russia, also admits this scenario and claims that Moscow has the necessary development in this direction to give a dignified rejection if something happens.

The evolution of the space situation will depend on the real challenges this US system will face. Russia has its own development in this direction. We will make decisions depending on what they are going to do in space. From the point of view of space intelligence, we’re okay, the experts drew the conclusion.

It must be understood that the United States has been preparing for war in space since the last millennium. In 1983, the Strategic Defense Initiative was announced by US President Ronald Reagan. Its purpose was to gain dominance in space. Then the Americans wanted to put funds into space that could catch missiles. In 1993, the program was curtailed.

Space Force was born during the Donald Trump years. Sounds great, but the structure is already three years old. Their main goal is to carry out military operations in space. They serve 16 thousand people. The creation of these troops has been endorsed by many prominent American figures, such as NASA chief Jim Bridenstine and SpaceX chief Elon Musk. At the same time, the space unit Space Delta 7 also appeared, and the most interesting thing is that the Space Operations Command lists Space Delta 9, whose tasks include orbital warfare. It seems that the battle in space is already underway, and it is important not to forget the answer.
